Pastor’s Corner: Pressing Forward

In the book of Philippians 3:14, the apostle Paul says, ” …forgetting those things that are behind we must press forward ..” I believe that there is a great pearl of wisdom in that text and if we adhere to it, there is also a blessing.

We find that placing certain elements under pressure will cause substances to come forth that wouldn’t have otherwise. For example, coal in the right condition will produces a stone that has great value. An olive under pressure produces an oil that has many uses. We will not discover our true value or unique uses until we are put in position to produce.  Our position happens when we start to press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus. When this happens there is a spiritual transformation that takes place in us that adds value and makes us more useful than our original state prior to the pressing. Jesus tells Peter in  Luke 22:31 that Satan has desired to put you under some pressure but i have prayed for you and when you are transformed, NOT if you are. Jesus knew this pressing would change Peter forever and that he would be more useful and valuable. Jesus goes on to say that when Peter is transformed, go and help many others also. We see Peter transformed on the Day of Pentecost and how he goes on to lead many others in the way of Christ.

If you feel as tho you are under some pressure in life currently don’t worry. It is not to destroy you, but to help you discover the value and power  you possess in Christ. Posture yourself in prayer. It will give you a greater relationship with the Father and relationship will bring forth revelation. Be patient and glory in this place. Romans 5:3-4 says this experience will increase your hope and the Holy Ghost will increase in you, courage and the character of God. Finally Peter says in 1 Pet. 5:10 after the pressing God will strengthen, establish you, and settle you. So don’t give up there is a blessing in your pressing.
