Reflections From Sunday: Agreement

Amos 3:3 begs the question, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

The answer can be found throughout history. From arguments, to debates, and even wars; Disagreements have been at the center of many divisions in humanity and will continue to divide us unless a medium can be reached.

Where there is disagreement, there is also weakness. Any intelligent opponent exposes weaknesses and our adversary, the devil does that every chance he gets. We as believers can fortify our fight against the enemy by coming together in agreement. The Bible mentions how two can’t do the simple task of walking together if they’re at disagreement, but it also talks about how powerful we become when we do agree and come together. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus tells us that, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” When Christ is in the midst of our situation, everything has to come under subjection to His will. We have a universe changing effect when we come together in solidarity.

Disagreement sprouts from pride. Our belief that our ideas and understandings are superior to others causes us to disagree and ultimately create separation among groups. When these separate groups attack one another, we see the result of it; Protests that lead to riots and chaos, verbal and physical attack on the innocent, persecution, and so much more stem from disagreement and separation.

We must come together as one body in Christ for us to make any difference in the world. We must put our pride to the side and join together for strength. Christ called for us to become one and we immeasurable benefits from it.
